This is one of the best races in the region. If you haven't been you need to. If you have, you know. In fact, it's the Wednesday after the race and G and I are still here!!!
Over the years I have done it all here; the XC's, STXC, and the Omnium competition. The latter never again....well, after seeing the top hat Bryan Fawley got as this year's winner I may rethink. Mine is badass, but his one notch badder. This year I was just able to make the XC. That's cool by me cuz that's my deal. This course is probably more suited to my strengths than any other. That usually equates to a good race if I can keep air in my tires. The rock here is vicious.
Race Recap in under 150... words...There were 4 of us off the front after the 20 odd minutes in town. Fawley (Orbea), teammate Chris Drummond, Frank Webber (Orbea), and me. The 3 of them gapped me after we were in the singletrack. I wasn't/couldn't going to ride Bryan's pace so I settled in to a hard cruise. I quickly regained contact with Frank. We traded a few blows as we rode together the first big lap. Fortunately/unfortunately we passed Chris up on the Miner's rock climb with a puncture (see above). It seemed I was outclimbing Frank and he was descending a little quicker. So, on the second run up Miner's I punched it and he didn't respond so I stayed on the gas. Once up I went back to a hard cruise and thankfully kept air in the tires and ended 2nd overall.
I've been doing this race for a lot of years and it just keeps getting better. Thanks to Dave and his crew. And, Fred and his crew for making this one of the best Fatties to date.
Bryan, this year's Omnium winner, in his sweet hat, "my hat's bigger than your hat"

Me, the first Omnium winner in my top hat, "you may bring me out of retirement"

Pics again pipped from Tommy D. Man, have I been lazy lately. Thanks, Tommy...
